its function is to minimize electrostatic build-up by dissipating electrostatic charge, thus avoiding the risk
of spark ignition. Although antistatic footwear creates a resistance between foot and floor (since the lowest limit of resistance
is 10

Ω it may provide limited protection against malfunction of electrical equipment operating at voltages of up to 250V) it
does not provide adequate protection against electric shock for which additional provisions should be taken. The electrical
resistance of footwear can be significantly affected by flexing, contamination or moisture. Where antistatic footwear is in use
the resistance of the flooring should not jeopardize the protection provided by the footwear. The electrical properties of the
footwear should be checked before entering an electrostatic hazard area.
